Job Description

Title                              : Teacher Trainer (TT)

Responsible to          : English Language Programs Director (ELPD)


A)     General Responsibilities

  1. Organizing and carrying out teacher training development activities for Bilgi English Language Preparatory Program instructors,
  2. Investigating and working on long-term teacher training and development activities for Bilgi English Language Preparatory Program instructors,
  3. Maintaining effective communication with and among the instructors, English Language Programs Director (ELPD) and trainers working in other institutions,
  4. Assisting the ELPD and the Academic Coordinator (AC) in managing quality assurance program,
  5. Establishing processes to review instructors’ achievement at the end of the performance management cycle,
  6. Carrying out administrative duties related to the job,
  7. Fulfilling other job-related duties as and when required.

 

B)     Specific Responsibilities

1. Organizes and carries out teacher training development activities for Bilgi English Language Preparatory Program instructors by

a)      identifying the training and development needs of the instructors in coordination with the ELPD and the AC,

b)      organizing and giving in-service training sessions (INSETs), workshops and sessions on identified areas to improve classroom teaching,

c)      providing input and support to instructors on mentorship, peer observation, video observation and other developmental activities (Continuous Professional Development –CPD- Options),

d)      carrying out classroom observations with newly recruited instructors as well as existing Preparatory Program instructors ,

e)      giving feedback to instructors through pre-and post-observation meetings,  providing support on teaching and learning issues and deciding on necessary action plan, and designing further training activities considering the instructors’ strengths and weaknesses,

f)       organizing and carrying out training sessions for novice and new instructors during their probationary period (Induction Program),

g)      organizing and carrying out training activities in order to integrate newly recruited instructors with the existing Preparatory Program instructors at the beginning of the Academic Year,

h)      providing customized training to individual instructors depending on their needs.

 

2. Investigates and works on long-term teacher training and development activities for Bilgi English Language Preparatory Program instructors by

a) keeping up to date with the recent developments in ELT and Education; national and international training events and conferences, seminars, workshops,

b) carrying out research on training and development needs across the school as well as systematic evaluation on all training and development activities,

c) initiating and organizing action research projects to help improve teaching and learning,

d) considering the feedback from instructors and other faculty members to plan further training activities for the coming academic year.

 

3. Maintains effective communication with the instructors, ELPD and trainers working in other institutions by

a) attending regular meetings with the AC, ELPD and instructors to discuss the areas where instructors need support in implementing the curriculum in the classroom,

b) liaising and attending meetings with AC, ELPD and instructors to discuss training and development issues and work in progress,

c) informing instructors about all training and development activities across the school,

d) starting and maintaining ongoing and effective communication with other trainers, and training groups, institutions, or organizations in the field,

e) attending and presenting at national and international conferences when possible; (*Participation to conferences/seminars can only be funded as long as it is approved by the Board of Directors.)

f) giving workshops and training sessions at various language teaching institutions to promote Bilgi teaching philosophy.

 

4. Assists the ELPD and the AC in managing quality assurance program by

a) helping create a climate of development, cooperation and trust within and across the ELP teams,

b) assisting the AC and the ELPD in teacher evaluations and appraisals and establishing processes to review instructors’ achievements at the end of the performance management cycle,

c) observing instructors and providing feedback on their development through pre-observation and post-observation meetings,

d) identifying the teacher training and development needs of all English Preparatory Program instructors,

e) supporting and guiding instructors for CPD activities to promote consistency and standard quality of teaching,

f)  involving instructors in mentorship, peer observation, video observation and other developmental activities (Continuous Professional Development –CPD- Options),

g) informing the instructors about any relevant training opportunities within and outside the University,

h) keeping up to date with the recent developments in ELT and Education.


5. Establishes processes to review instructors’ achievement at the end of the performance management cycle by

a) being part of yearly appraisal procedures with instructors in the team,

b) using the evaluation process to improve instruction effectively,

c) providing constructive feedback to employees via pre/post-observation meetings,

d) completing the appropriate documentation and handing them in on time.


6. Carries out administrative duties related to the job by

a) keeping records related to the training and development activities planned, carried out, and evaluated,

b) organizing, filing and sharing all training and development-related materials, documents, session notes, lesson plans, reflection sheets, ELT resource materials, etc., via Bilgi online platform,

c) informing instructors about all training and development activities across the school;

d) contributing to the development of ELP policies and procedures,

e) keeping accurate records of observations/feedback reports and hands them in time to the AC and the ELPD and HRM to be kept in the instructor’s individual files.


7. Fulfills other job-related duties as and when required

a) carrying out any other job-related duties as identified and required by ELPD.
